Mayerthorpe Rodeo in the 70's

1979 Mayerthorpe Kinsman Annual Paddle River Rodeo

As I sit and flip through a scrap book from 1978 -1981.

I think how the meaning of Scrap book has changed. This book has news clippings and stories from Mayerthopre and the neighboring communities.

From a Tragic Fire, Rodeo and Ag. Fair days, Grand Openings, New Beginnings to Huge Losses in the community. Not knowing what I was looking for really. Just something on the Mayerthorpe Rodeo from year’s past.

I find photos of Rodeo Queens, local contestants and ones who came from a far, Fathers of CFR Champs who once rode in these Amateur Rodeos. Many who still enjoy the Rodeo maybe not in a ROUGH STOCK event as they once did. But a little safer event as our bones get a little worn just like our saddle has.

And the young STEER RIDERS who now own Championships buckles of their own. This area has an abundance of rodeo history that many may not know.

But I have enjoyed traveling back in time and I hope you will be just as interested in my findings.

Maybe Rodeo isn’t your idea of great entertainment. But I hope you will take the time to live out the western heritage for just one day. Please join us at The Mayerthorpe Rodeo.
